Why Can T You See Stars In Space

That s why we keep sending telescopes there.
Why can t you see stars in space. It is a common misconception that the apollo astronauts didn t see any stars. Stars are clearly visible in space. The same thing happens if you try to take a picture of someone under a dark starry sky. While stars don t show up in the pictures from the apollo missions that s because the camera exposures were set to.
Naturally the astronauts or satellites in space are going to do the same thing when taking pictures of sunlit objects since it s just as bright up there. If you re a sighted person walking from a brightly lit to a dark outdoor area you won t see stars in the sky either at least not right away. As your eyes dial up their sensitivity by opening up your pupils you slowly notice fainter and fainter stars. The stars aren t visible because they are too faint.
But pictures of celestial bodies taken from space by astronauts aboard satellites do not have any stars in the background because stars are very very far away. Actually we can see them better from space than through our thick atmosphere. Yes you can see stars in space. Fast exposure times means they can get.
The astronauts in their white spacesuits appear quite bright so they must use short shutter speeds and large f stops to not overexpose the pictures. With those camera settings though the stars don t show up.
