When Was The Space Race

This is a timeline of first achievements in spaceflight from the first intercontinental ballistic missile through the first multinational human crewed mission spanning the era of the space race on july 31 1956 the united states announced its intention to launch an artificial satellite during the international geophysical year july 1 1957 to december 31 1958.
When was the space race. That beep and the 1957 newspapers with their big black. Soon after world war ii the united states and the soviet union became locked in a global conflict pitting democracy against communism. Private companies like spacex alongside nasa capture the imagination and inspire us. But the grand challenge of our generation is not space.
Between the mid 1950s to 1975 the united states and the soviet union strived to outdo each other in rocket technology and space exploration. By landing on the moon the united states effectively won the space race that had begun with sputnik s launch in 1957. Our new space race is a planetary. For their part the soviets made four failed attempts to launch a lunar.
It would be the soviets however who would win the race to put a man in space. Space became a critical theater in this cold war as each side competed to best the other s achievements in what became known as the space race. Neither superpower were clear winners of the space race but many of the technological discoveries and developments have benefited mankind is a whole. Even over the babel of huge crowds in the national air and space museum i hear an irritating little beep beep beep the sound of sputnik.
According to russian sources these achievements led to the conclusion that the ussr had an advantage in space technology in the early 1960s.
